October

In honor of October approaching rapidly, I have officially decided on my Halloween costume! Each year I end up waiting too long and then I have to wear something lame because I don't have time to find what I really want/I don't know how to sew and can't make it myself. Perhaps I was inspired by the haunted house that I went to the other night (Nightmare on 13th in SLC is pretty good...not the scariest I've been too but the special effects were pretty darn good) or maybe I just have too much time on my hands but this year I made my decision early. I have decided to be a bat!

(made from a black umbrella) and if it all works out right I'll end up looking something like this:

I'm not sure about the ears though, they might get in the way. Any thoughts?

To my BYU girls...

Those of you that lived in Taylor Hall from 2000-2001 may appreciate this picture:

I totally ran into our old RA in DC...but being the lame person that I am, I didn't even say hi but instead sneakily took a picture when she wasn't looking. Hooray for running into RA's across the country at a young single adult activity 8 years later!

Utah County, here I come....

As I head out for the weekend I am reminded of some of the things that I love more than anything up there in the promised land like....

1. Cafe Rio Pork Salads

Seriously...I dream about these at night!

2. My baby sister Chelsey who is also my favorite hair stylist (she probably should have come first but I seriously have Cafe Rio on the brain)

3. My bff Megan...whose pretty much like a sister to me after all this time

4. And last but not least...the main reason that I am going up this weekend...a combination tea party and haunted house excursion with the older Rowley cousins!!!

Missing him still

Today I am at a loss for words. I find that on this day, my thoughts are all with Clayton. It's amazing that after 14 years I can still miss him so much. I miss the person that he was and I miss the person that he never got to be. I am grateful, however, for the time that I got to spend with him because he was the type of kid that you couldn't help liking-he loved everyone and everyone loved him in return. He was cute and mischevious and curious and kind. He is the perfect example of who I hope to become someday.

The Goosenecks Analogy

Since moving to Halchita, I have had the privlege of spending some time at this beautiful place, known as Goosenecks. It is where the San Juan River has run its course for thousands of years and slowly formed what you see above. As I sat at the top (which is now 1,000 feet above the river), I couldn't help but relate what happened here to my own life. I think about the choices that I have made-to go a certain way or to be a certain type of person-and at first the decision didn't seem like it would affect my life in any significant way. And yet, as I look back I realize that just like the river that continued on its path for so long that it is now set; the choices that I made in my life early on helped determine my course. Of course, I still believe that we can change-that I can change-but the things that really matter will remain the same. Like my faith in a Heavenly Father who loves me or my belief that families are forever or my commitment to education or my knowledge that there is a plan out there for me.

I like to think that I change daily in little ways but in the ways that matter, my course is set.

Lola

Apparently I forgot to mention that I am officially an aunt...on August 5, Brandon and Jessica had baby Lola Chanel and she is pretty darn cute. I even get to meet her for the first time in 3 weeks!

Cute, right? And speaking of cute, here are some pics of the other two kids in my life...Joe and Alissa who may very soon become another niece and nephew!

It starts to make me feel like I better get on the ball and meet someone soon! I can't have everyone procreating without me!

Capeside's Finest

You may be wondering what I am spending all of my time doing while I sit at home by myself every afternoon.

The truth is that I watch a lot of Dawson's Creek...I have a secret obsession. I am now at the end of season 4...which means that in the past like 2 weeks I have watched the first three seasons. I know it is sad but it makes me feel like I have friends. Okay, that is even sadder.

I have also taken up cross stitching...I haven't quite finished my first one so pictures will be forthcoming. It is a cute one for baby Lola.

I also talk to my mom pretty much every single day. She helps keep me grounded and reminds me to get out of the house every once in awhile and actually go do something!

In case you wonder, I really do plan on posting pictures of myself (and not just the DC bunch) soon...my computer has been broken and thus, no downloading pics from my camera. But I promise, it will be soon.

When they said remote...

For those of you out there who have started to worry that something tragic has happened to me (i.e. falling off a rock formation, bitten by a black widow, eaten by coyotes), I am here to let you know that none of the above has happened...yet. I am sorry that I have been so out of touch for the past month. When I planned on moving to Halchita, UT, I hadn't fully comprehended what everyone meant when they said that it was "remote". Obviously by remote, they meant that it would take me over a month to get any form of tv or internet, that there are literally no people my age, and when I'm sitting in my house, I very rarely hear any kind of noise.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are some things that are amazing out here. The view from my windows in absolutely amazing and has made me start sketching, which has been very enjoyable. My housing is amazing and incredibly cheap and I have plenty of time for myself. But being by myself all of the time has made me start to feel incredibly lonely. I miss being around people my own age and I miss having things to do. Mostly, I just miss civilization! But I finally have internet access so I plan on keeping my blog updated!

Stay tuned....
